backpackers in South Africa...and, so far on my ten-year travels, the best
I've seen anywhere! It is a MUST for anyone visiting the country.
There is loads to do or do nothing at all...it is the best of all worlds.
Forewarned: you will stay longer than you planned to.
The Kraal
Without question, the most unique
backpackers I've ever been to. When you visit the Kraal, set in the
magical Transkei, you feel like you are going back in time...Amazing
scenery, delicious food, peaceful sleeps and a true and authentic taste of
Pondo Xhosa culture.
Away with the Fairies
It is said that J.R.R. Tolkein spent
time in the Hogsback area as a child and later used memories of the area as
inspiration in his classic "The Lord of the Rings". Whether this is
true or not is irrelevant...at the very least, it is believable...Set in the
mountains, this tranquil hostel is a wonderful change from the South African
coast line.
